Fluffy slime: the shaving cream recipe
Fluffy slime, light and soft as a cloud: white school glue, shaving cream, baking soda, and contact lens solution. Amounts, steps, and tips.

Fluffy slime is puffy, matte, and super soft. The secret: lots of shaving cream, mixed into the glue before you activate it. It looks amazing, but it deflates within a few days: it’s a “right now” slime, made for the fun of the texture.
Use regular foam shaving cream from a can, not gel: gel doesn’t give the same result.
Ingredients
- ½ cup (120 ml) white PVA school glue (washable)
- about 3 cups (720 ml) foam shaving cream (three big, heaping cups)
- ½ tsp (2.5 ml) baking soda
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) contact lens solution with boric acid and sodium borate
- Food coloring (optional)
Supplies: a large mixing bowl (the foam takes up room), a spatula.

Why these ingredients? What the activator does and which glue to choose.
Steps
- Fill the bowl with shaving cream: three big, heaping cups.
- Add the food coloring on top of the foam.
- Pour in the glue and fold it in gently so you don’t flatten all the foam.
- Mix in the baking soda.
- An adult adds the contact lens solution, then a few more drops if the mixture is still sticky.
- Knead it with your hands: the dough turns thick, soft, and puffy.
How do you know it worked?
When it works, fluffy slime holds a ball shape, squishes like foam, and makes little “crackle” sounds when you stretch it. If it’s really sticky, add the solution drop by drop.
The most common slime fails
- It’s very sticky
- Shaving cream adds water. Add a few more drops of solution, then knead for a long time.
- It turned rubbery
- Too much activator: too much solution makes it hard and brittle. A spoonful of glue can soften it.
- It deflated overnight
- That’s normal: the foam bubbles disappear. It becomes a more classic slime that you can still play with.
Another problem? The Slime Fixer goes through every symptom.
Why does it work?
Shaving cream brings in thousands of tiny air bubbles trapped in the dough: that’s where the lightness comes from. Like all foams, those bubbles eventually pop, which is why it deflates.
Variations and ideas
- Two pastel colors, only half mixed together, give a marbled look.
- For an even more “cloudlike” slime that pulls apart in flakes, try cloud slime.
How to store it
Airtight container; expect a few days of “fluff” before it sinks. A deflated slime hasn’t failed, it has just lost its air.
