Clear slime: the recipe for glass-clear slime
How to make clear slime with clear PVA glue and contact lens solution, and why you need to let it rest for a few days before it turns crystal clear.

Clear slime is made just like basic slime, but with clear glue. The catch: right after kneading, it’s full of tiny bubbles and looks milky. It only turns truly clear after one to three days of rest in a closed container.
It’s the best base for glitter slime and crunchy slime: you can see everything you put in it.
Ingredients
- ½ cup (120 ml) clear PVA glue
- ½ cup (120 ml) warm water
- ½ tsp (2.5 ml) baking soda
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) contact lens solution with boric acid and sodium borate
- 1 drop of food coloring (optional: any more and it turns opaque)
Supplies: a mixing bowl, a spoon, an airtight container.

Why these ingredients? What the activator does and which glue to choose.
Steps
- Gently stir the glue and warm water together. Go slowly: every hard stir adds bubbles.
- If you like, add a single drop of food coloring.
- Mix in the baking soda.
- An adult pours in the contact lens solution a little at a time, stirring slowly, until the mixture comes away from the bowl.
- Knead for 2 minutes, then seal the slime in an airtight container and let it rest for 1 to 3 days without touching it.
How do you know it worked?
After the resting time, the bubbles have risen and disappeared: the slime is crystal clear. If it’s still cloudy, it was often kneaded too much; give it one more day.
The most common slime fails
- It stays white and cloudy
- Those are air bubbles. Be patient: 1 to 3 days in a closed container. Try not to knead it in the meantime.
- It’s super sticky
- Clear glues sometimes react more slowly. Add the solution in small amounts and knead longer before adding more.
- It’s no longer clear after the food coloring
- One drop is enough: any more and the food coloring turns the slime opaque. To keep the glassy look, add one drop at most, or none at all.
Another problem? The Slime Fixer goes through every symptom.
Why does it work?
It works just like easy slime: the borate links the chains in the glue. The difference is the glue itself, which has no white pigment. Air bubbles trapped while mixing make it cloudy; as it rests, they rise and escape.
Variations and ideas
- Add glitter or confetti after the rest for a “galaxy” look.
- Add fishbowl beads for a crunchy slime.
- Add glow-in-the-dark powder for a glow-in-the-dark slime.
How to store it
Always in an airtight container: left out in the air, the surface dries and it loses its clarity. Never put it in the microwave: heat damages its structure.
