Unicorn slime: pastel colors, glitter, and rainbows

Unicorn slime in three pastel colors with glitter and sequins: the clear slime recipe, the trick to keep the colors separate, and ideas for jars.

Unicorn slime is a glittery clear slime in several pastel colors (pink, purple, blue) twisted together. Little Bins for Little Hands makes it with liquid starch, but notes that the saline solution recipe works too: that’s the one we give here, so you can use the same contact lens solution activator as in all our recipes.

The catch: the more you play, the more the colors blend, until it ends up a glittery purple-gray. That’s normal, and it still looks pretty.

Ingredients

Supplies: three bowls, a clear jar.

Why these ingredients? What the activator does and which glue to choose.

Steps

  1. In each bowl, mix glue and water, one drop of food coloring, and some glitter.
  2. Add the baking soda to each bowl.
  3. An adult adds the solution a little at a time to each bowl; knead each color separately.
  4. Lay the three ropes side by side, stretch them together, and twist two or three times.
  5. Store in a jar with the colors still showing.

The most common slime fails

The colors blended together
Twist less. To get crisp colors back, you’ll need to make separate batches again.
One color is stickier than the others
Each bowl gets its own amount: an adult adds a few drops of solution only to the color that’s sticky, before you twist the colors.
